Windows and doors
I chose to take pictures of windows and doors in my neighborhood. I rarely stop to appreciate the subtle beauty of my neighborhood, but I did for this project. The images are organized in order of closest/farthest from my house, as they were taken during a walk I took in my neighborhood.

This photo essay is a portrait of the places and activities that have shaped who I am. The first image represents my hometown, Encinitas, California. Although the picture was not taken there, it reminds me of the ocean that I used to love as a kid. The second image is a photo taken on a hike in Colorado. I lived in Colorado for ten years, from when I was five years old up until August this year. Most of my memories are in Colorado, all the good and the bad. In the third image, there are roses to represent Portland, or the "Rose City". Moving to Portland has been one of the most significant moments in my life. It is the one of the biggest and most important changes in both my personal and family life. The fourth photo was taken at the Hollywood Theater to show my love for film. Ever since I was a kid, I would try to see every movie that my local movie theater was showing. I loved to analyze the content and the characters and try to learn something from each movie I saw. The fifth picture is of my guitar and ukulele to represent my love of music. For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a musician. I tried to learn any and every instrument I could get my hands on. I began to write music and sing it. Music was my biggest aspiration, and one of my biggest inspirations in life. The sixth picture shows several of my journals to show my love of writing. My whole life I've been writing, whether it was songs, poetry, short stories, scripts or essays. It was my way of understanding and processing the world. The last picture shows the most important thing in my life - family. It was taken of mom while she and I were on a hike, I have two older siblings as well, who have both changed my life greatly. My family has improved my life in so many ways. My goal for this photo essay is for the viewer to get to know me a little better.
